WBPSC EXAM PATTERN 2023

The WBPSC State Service Examination 2023 consists of three stages: Prelims, Mains, and Interview. Here is a breakdown of the exam pattern for each stage:

 (i) WBPSC Preliminary Examination (Objective Type-Multiple Choice Questions) 

(ii) WBPSC Main Examination 

(iii) Personality Test or Interviews.

WBPSC Prelims Exam Pattern 2023

1. Preliminary Examination: The Preliminary Examination is an objective-type examination consisting of two papers. Each paper is of 200 marks and 2 hours' duration.

• Paper I - General Studies: This paper covers a wide range of subjects, including Indian history, geography, polity, economy, and general science and technology.
• Paper II - Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT): This paper tests the candidates' aptitude for problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking.

The paper will include questions covering the following fields of knowledge:-

2. Main Examination: The Main Examination is a written examination consisting of nine papers. Each paper is of 200 marks and 3 hours' duration.

• Paper A - English Language: This paper tests the candidates' proficiency in the English language.
• Paper B - One Indian Language: This paper tests the candidates' proficiency in one of the following Indian languages: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Telugu, and Urdu.
• Papers I-VII - Compulsory Subjects: These papers cover the following subjects:-

1. Essay
2. General Studies I - Indian Heritage and Culture, Development and Environment, and Modern Indian History
3. General Studies II - Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations
4. General Studies III - Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management
5. General Studies IV - Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude

• Paper VIII and Paper IX - Optional Subjects: These papers cover the candidates' chosen optional subjects.

3. Interview: The Interview is a personality test designed to assess the candidates' suitability for a career in the civil services.

• Candidates who qualify for the Mains exam are called for an interview.
• The interview carries 200 marks.
• The interview is conducted to assess the candidate's personality, communication skills, and knowledge of current affairs.
