Conquering the National Institute of Fashion Technology's (NIFT) Master of Design (M.Des.) entrance exam is the first step towards stepping into the world of prestigious design education. But before you dive into preparation, understanding the exam pattern is key!

Here's a breakdown to equip you for the challenge:

Stages of the Exam:

The NIFT M.Des selection process comprises two stages:

1. Written Exam: This stage consists of two sections:

• Creative Ability Test (CAT): This section assesses your design thinking, imagination, and visual communication skills through tasks like sketching, model making, and problem-solving. (Think outside the box!)
• General Ability Test (GAT): This section tests your general knowledge, analytical ability, communication skills, and English comprehension.

GENERAL ABILITY TEST (GAT): This test will comprise of various sub-tests
as given below:
1) Quantitative Ability
2) Communication Ability
3) English Comprehension
4) Analytical Ability
5) General Knowledge and Current Affairs

1) Quantitative Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the quantitative ability of the candidates. The sub test consists of questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, and Distance.
2) Communication Ability: This sub-test is aimed at testing the language ability of the candidates in day to day communication in English. It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, etc.

3) English Comprehension: This sub-test is to test one’s ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage.
4) Analytical Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s inference and logic from the given information.
5) General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s general knowledge and current affairs.

CREATIVE ABILITY TEST (CAT): This test is administered to judge the intuition, power of observation, and innovation in the development of a concept by the candidate and its application through various skills. This test demonstrates the creative and innovative medium, skills, and conceptual ability.

2. Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/PI): Shortlisted candidates from the written exam will be invited for GD/PI, where your communication, teamwork, and design aptitude will be further evaluated.
